Where are My Edges?!

You use to have a gorgeous hairline but slowly, bit by bit, your hairline started thinning, receding, and disappearing. What happened? What did you do wrong? Will they come back? These are all questions I am sure you are asking yourself! I don't have all the answers but here are some things to think on.

1. Is it the style? Styles with braids and relaxed styles can cause stress on your fragile hairline and eventually cause breakage, damage, and even some balding and receding around your edges! Many braided styles are very tight to create a look that lasts and is neat however, pulling on hair line will attack your edges and every time you take your braids out you will find more and more of your edges falling out. This is not to say that the Naturalista should not wear braids just be aware of how tightly you or your stylist are braiding your edges and try not to get the same high tension style back to back. As far as relaxed hair and its affect on the edges...chemicals...need I say more?

2. Have you been wiggin' it? A lot of us natural haired beauties consider wigs to be a protective style. Don't get me wrong I love a good wig slay myself, however, the band around your lace-front or half wig is causing consistent friction every day even if you take your wig off at night. The band or lace at the start of your wig can cause your hairline recede or just break off in the place where your wig is sitting. This is referred to as traction alopecia and it is not a good look, ask Naomi Campbell! So what do you do? Snatch your wig off for a while sis! At least for a week or two. You hairline is worth it!

3. The last question is, do you have male pattern baldness? Many women have male-pattern baldness and don't know it! Go see a dermatologist or just take a look at the men in your family. If you see that many men in your family are balding that may be culprit, unfortunately, there is not much that can be done for male pattern baldness, but have hope! We have a style for you.

So remember ladies give your edges a break from the pulling of braids and chemical alterations, snatch your wig to avoid traction alopecia, and take note of your genetic history, and moisturize, moisturize, moisturize. All of these things can help you revive your edges and educate yourself about your hair.

Have a perfect day and thanks for reading!
