Why Coconut Oil Sucks for Natural Hair!

Coconut Oil and natural hair, best coconut oil for natural hair.

We all know about the Coconut Oil craze. For the past few years or more coconut oil has been praised as “essential” to the Naturalistas product list. There was actually a point where coconut oil was SO popular I could no longer find it in the grocery store; and if I did find it was $150,000! Okay, I’m exaggerating, but seriously, coconut oil is always trending in the natural hair community but is it even good for your hair? Is there something better!?

The fact is coconut oil is not the best oil or even a good oil for us curly girls! Coconut oil’s heavy and thick nature clogs pores and is extremely heavy on our fragile hair! This means that not only is it hindering hair growth it is nearly impossible for coconut oil to wash out. Eek! The thick weighing oil can stand up against any shampoo. It takes at LEAST few shampoos to get the coconut oil out of your hair! Yes, you read that right! Coconut oil sits on top of the hair shafts and is barely being absorbed. After you shampoo there is still a risk that the heavy weighing coconut oil is still weighing down your hair and collecting dirt.

So what's the solution? Here at Zamora Natural Hair, we suggest peppermint oil and argan oil. Both oils should be mixed with other oil such as almond oil, soybean oil, and castor oil. Peppermint oil stimulates the scalp to promotes growth which assists with hair loss and it's light weight! Argan oil is a great moisturizer that conditions, treats split ends, and tames frizz. Both of these oils are our Zamora essential hair products for the Naturalista.

The final verdict is, lathering your hair in the deliciously smelling and tasting coconut oil is doing more harm than good and peppermint and argan oils are a much better option.
